Woman Strangled In North Andover Basement Identified

NORTH ANDOVER (CBS) -- The Essex County District Attorney's Office has identified a woman who was strangled inside a North Andover home on Saturday, though few details have been released about her death.

Forty-nine-year-old Wendi Rose Davidson was discovered in the basement of a two-family home on Lincoln Street around 12:30 p.m. Davidson lives in the home with her brother.

Her apartment as well as her car, which was found a short distance away from the home, have been searched. The district attorney, North Andover Police, and State Police Detective Unit are actively investigating her death as a homicide.

"At this time the family asks for privacy. As we grieve and deal with the tragedy we have no other comment. We ask for privacy," Davidson's son said as the family left the home on Sunday.

Investigators said an upstairs neighbor found the Davidson. Residents in the neighborhood were stunned by the news.

"It's crazy. It's unbelievable. It's such a quiet neighborhood and it's filled with families. We go jogging all the time, wave to people. You see people walking their dogs and you never hear of stuff like this. This is just unheard of. We can't believe it," neighbor Vinny Pintone said.

The Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy to establish an official cause of death.

Investigators do not believe it was a random act. That hasn't brought comfort to the quiet neighborhood.

"We are out every night, walking the dog. People are always out and talking to each other. It's very scary that something like this has happened here," one woman who lives in the neighborhood said.
