No Surgery For Celtics' Jermaine O'Neal

BOSTON (AP) - The Boston Celtics say center Jermaine O'Neal will miss another four weeks, but will not have surgery on his injured left knee.

General manager Danny Ainge said Wednesday that O'Neal and the team's medical staff agreed not to operate on the knee, which has kept him out since Jan. 10 and caused him to miss 19 games early in the season.

Ainge says O'Neal may have tried to return to the lineup too soon. Ainge says the four-week window should give O'Neal enough time to recover until he is fully ready to rejoin the lineup.

Ainge says the Celtics want to be sure O'Neal is healthy and ready to go once the playoffs start.
