No Setbacks For Gronkowski, But Not Ready For OTAs

BOSTON (CBS) -- While Rob Gronkowski isn't ready to take the field with his teammates just yet, the Patriots tight end is happy with his progress as he recovers from a torn ACL.

Gronkowski told reporters on Wednesday he's not ready to take part in this week's OTAs at Gillette Stadium, but he hasn't suffered any setbacks as he works his way back to the playing field.

"It's coming along good; just rehabbing every day, improving every week," Gronkowski said at a PLAY60 event on Wednesday. "That's all I can ask for."

While Gronkowski finds himself using another offseason to recover from an injury, this has been much different from last offseason when he was working his way back from multiple forearm and back surgeries.

"It's way different stuff, I just have to be patient and work hard and literally give it all I have every single day," said Gronkowski. "When we're done with this event I'm heading to the building to work out with my teammates and do my rehab. All I can ask for is to work hard every day and let the body heal and do what it does. Hopefully when it comes down to it I'm ready to roll."

Gronkowski, several of his teammates and Patriots owner Robert Kraft were at the Igo Elementary School on Wednesday morning for a Play60 event to promote exercise and activity among the students. As a special twist to Wednesday's event, they also hosted an event to promote exercise among seniors 60-88-years-old.

Kraft surprised the Igo School with a $60,000 donation to help build a new playground. The Patriots' owner said he is optimistic that Gronkowski will be back on the field soon.

"I do my Play60 every day and I am down in the training room, and he's been there and he's been very diligent and working very hard," Kraft told reporters. "Now we just hope it translates to the field."
