No Immediate Problems Seen From Callahan Tunnel Closure
BOSTON (CBS)- The closing of the Callahan Tunnel, which connects Boston to East Boston and Logan International Airport has not caused any immediate major issues, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation said on Saturday.
The 52-year-old tunnel closed Friday night for repairs and will remain closed until March 12 for the first phase of a $35 million rehab project.
MassDOT and other officials says the transition appears to have gone smoothly, but they are keeping an eye on upcoming weekday commutes.

About 30,000 cars travel through the tunnel during an average weekday commute.
"Overall, we are pleased with how traffic has flowed but we realize this is a weekend period with light volume," the DOT said in a statement.
Officials say they are still working out details for additional police details to help out on the detour routes.
They are encouraging the public to seek out alternate routes and use public transportation during the closure.
