Jessie Williams, 24, of Medford, and Eugene Tate, 19, of Malden, were arrested Sunday and charged with murder, armed assault with intent to murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, armed robbery, and illegal possession of a firearm.
Prosecutors say the two men went to a Stoneham home last week to rob a man they planned to buy drugs from.
That man, worried something was up, had asked Joseph Puopolo Jr. to protect him.
Puopolo Jr. had just returned from Afghanistan about a year ago.
Prosecutors say Puopolo was shot and killed by the men.
His friend was wounded.
Judge Timothy Gailey allowed court documents in the case to be sealed, to be seen only by the defendants and the lawyers in the case.
