NH Teen Accused Of Making 'Hit List' With Students' Names
HUDSON, N.H. (CBS/AP) — A Hudson, New Hampshire high school student is accused of creating a hit list with the names of five students who were sent a threatening message.
Superintendent Bryan Lane says one of the targeted students at Alvirne High School came forward and told a teacher which started an immediate criminal investigation. Hudson police say the message was sent via the instant messaging app KIK and was serious enough to involve the school resource officer and police with the school district cooperating in the investigation.
Police in Massachusetts issued a warning Thursday, that the KIK app could put children in danger of child predators. KIK, like "Snapchat" sends messages that are quickly deleted and not saved on a server.
"You worry about it nowadays anyway," said parent Heidi Lasala. "You get something like this you're like 'wow' it hits close to home."
She's referring to an e-mail that all parents were sent to inform and reassure them.
"The information was taken seriously and immediate action was taken by the administrative staff. Those students who were directly involved in this situation were notified along with their parents."
The unidentified student was arraigned in juvenile court on a charge of criminal threatening and could face suspension.
"Part of me hopes the child who made the list wasn't serious about it, but you can't take that chance," said parent Jennie Arnold. Police say more charges could be forthcoming.
