NH Warns Not To Eat Food From Gardens Flooded By Irene
CONCORD, N.H. (AP) -- New Hampshire health officials are telling consumers not to eat food from gardens flooded by Irene.
The state Department of Agriculture is advising farmers to destroy or discard crops with edible portions exposed to flood waters. Health officials said the same advice applies to home gardeners.
Officials said flood waters are likely to contain contaminants from upstream farms, septic systems, lawns, roads, industrial sites and municipal sewage systems.
Public Health Director Jose Montero said people shouldn't take the chance on becoming ill by eating contaminated food.
