NH Police Trying To Solve $1 Million Jewelry Heist
PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (CBS) - Police in Portsmouth New Hampshire are trying to solve a million-dollar jewelry heist.
Bellman Jewelers in Portsmouth is closed up, while police try to find out who stole around a million dollars worth of jewelry from the store.
"We were horrified. Nothing like this has ever happened to us before," says store owner David Bellman.
He said it happened sometime between Saturday night and Tuesday morning; employees reported it when they opened up the store.
Captain Corey MacDonald said the city hasn't seen a heist this size in more than a decade. There were no obvious signs of a break-in. MacDonald said they didn't get an alarm notification at the police department.

Bellman says it looks like the thieves knew what they were doing. "They certainly weren't amateurs, they weren't kids. Kids will break things, smash windows. These guys had an idea. I'm sure it wasn't their first time."
Bellman Jewelers has been voted New Hampshire's Best Jeweler three years in a row. The Portsmouth store plans to reopen next week.
Police are now bringing in federal help with the case. Anyone with information is asked to call Portsmouth Police.
