NH Police Commissioner Resigns Over Racial Slur About Obama
WOLFEBORO, N.H. (CBS) --- The police commissioner who used the N-word in reference to President Barack Obama, has resigned.
The Wolfeboro Police Department confirmed the resignation to WBZ-TV.
"It's about time," Town Manager David Owen said. "He needed to do it sooner to avoid the fallout we've had."
Copeland was overheard at a restaurant and has admitted to calling Obama an explitive-N-word. Until Monday, Copeland had refused to apologize or resign.
Owen said Copeland's comments quickly went viral and resulted in many would-be tourists canceling vacation plans to come to Wolfeboro. The comments also caught the attention of former GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney who called for Copeland's resignation.
