NH Lawmaker Resigns After Saying Government Behind Boston Bombings

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — A Republican New Hampshire lawmaker who was widely criticized for comments she made about the Boston Marathon bombings has resigned.

House Information Officer Mario Piscatella confirmed Thursday that Rep. Stella Tremblay of Auburn submitted a letter of resignation. It hasn't yet been read to the House.

Tremblay had said a federal "black-ops" team was behind the bombings and one suspect was killed without having a chance to speak. She later said Jeff Bauman, who was photographed being wheeled from the scene and later lost his legs, was not in pain or shock. Tremblay said she would have been screaming.

Tremblay apologized. The House, without naming her, unanimously passed a resolution to show support for victims and heroes of the bombings and to disavow "unfounded speculation or accusation."
