NH Inmate Mistakenly Freed, Arrested Again
CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — New Hampshire corrections officials say a man is accused of robbing a gas station clerk two days after he was mistakenly freed.
Forty-four-year-old James Rand was arrested Monday in connection with the robbery, which happened Sunday night in Concord.
Corrections spokesman Jeff Lyons said Rand, who was mostly in prison on a forgery charge, was supposed to be paroled to county jail to face new charges on receiving stolen property. However, he said due to an apparent communication error, he was released into the community.
Parole Board executive assistant John Eckert says he's taking responsibility for what happened. He said he forgot to check if Rand was wanted on any other charges before he was released.
Rand was held on $60,000 bail following his arraignment.
