New Wegmans Store Opening In Northboro
NORTHBORO (CBS) - A store that earned legions of fans elsewhere on the east coast is finally opening in New England.
Thousands are expected for Wegmans' grand opening on Sunday in Northboro. Around 600 employees underwent a dress rehearsal on Friday.
The new Wegmans will be the biggest supermarket in the state, about three times bigger than an average grocery store.
WBZ-TV's Ken MacLeod reports.
A market cafe inside allows customers to taste dishes from around the world. They can either eat their food in the store or take it home.
The store, which is ranked in the top 10 of companies to work for across the country, also offers a gigantic assortment of alcohol: some 600 different beers and 1,500 different wine labels.
Wegmans, which has 80 stores in five other states, plans to open two other Bay State locations in Burlington, for sure, and probably Westwood. Market research helped pick those spots.
The chain's current boss, Danny Wegman, said he wanted to move into Massachusetts because he's a Harvard graduate.
