New Wakefield Rotary Configuration Causes Confusion, Uproar
WAKEFIELD (CBS) -- Many drivers in Massachusetts consider traffic rotaries to be a pain in their struts, but a new roundabout configuration up in Wakefield really has a lot of commuters fired up.
The rotary at Route 129 in Wakefield has new painted lanes and static signs that some drivers find very confusing. The new lanes are only about three weeks old.
A Facebook poster named "DJ" from Boxford, Mass, put up a video that has over 145,000 views. On it, he shows how several other drivers veer across the new marked lanes.
"They couldn't leave well enough alone," says DJ, complaining about the MassDOT's decision to make changes.
A DOT spokesperson, Jaqueline Goddard, told WBZ: "The pavement markings and static signage were installed to improve safety for vehicles and pedestrians who use the rotary at Route 129 in Wakefield."
One young mother we spoke with said she can't figure out which lane she's supposed to be in and fears getting in an accident. But another driver said he likes that lanes are now painted in the rotary because now people know where they are supposed to be.
