New Video Shows Moments After Boston Police Officer Was Shot
BOSTON (CBS) – The Boston Police officer who was shot last Friday is recovering at Boston Medical Center.
New amateur video shows the moments after the shooting at Humboldt Ave. and Ruthven Street in Roxbury. Police officers and EMTs are seen scrambling to save the life of Officer John Moynihan who was shot in the face at point blank range.
He appears conscious in the video, holding the right side of his head where he was shot.
Only days later, Officer Moynihan is making significant progress, and the good news was noted by President Obama when he came to town on Monday to help dedicate the new Edward M. Kennedy Institute. Vice President Joe Biden would later visit Moynihan in the hospital.
The woman caught in the crossfire that night is also speaking. Vanessa Brown was wounded in the arm.
"I heard a pop and then a series of shots after that," Vanessa Brown said in an interview with the Boston Globe. "I then noticed that I had been hit and I pulled my car over from the right where he was trying to flag down for some assistance and let them know I had been shot."
On Monday night, John Moynihan continued his recovery at BMC where he was expected to be moved out of intensive care. In his hometown of Norwood, friends gathered for a mass and prayer vigil.
"I guess he's doing a lot better than they expected so that's good news," Jerry Miller said.
