EEE Risk Level Now Critical In West Bridgewater, Easton, Raynham, Taunton
BOSTON (CBS) - The state is raising the risk of EEE in six towns, and launching a new round of aerial spraying.
The Department of Public Health says the risk level is now critical in West Bridgewater, Easton, Raynham and Taunton.
It will spray again in those towns as well as Norton and Bridgewater, where the risk level has been elevated to high.
The first round of spraying last month killed about 60 percent of the mosquitoes in the spray zone, but insects with EEE continue to be found.
"It's extremely important that residents in these communities take immediate steps to protect themselves and their families from mosquito bites," said DPH Commissioner John Auerbach. "Avoid outdoor activities at dusk and nighttime when mosquitoes are at their most active, use insect repellant, and cover exposed skin."
Spraying will begin as soon as possible.
