New Hampshire Students To Hold Mock Presidential Primary
CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — New Hampshire students will be weighing in on the presidential primary in a mock election being held next week.
More than 20,000 students in grades K-12 from 146 schools will be voting in the New Hampshire Primary Mock Election on Tuesday — one week before adults head to the polls for the real deal.
The mock election is coordinated by New Hampshire Public Television. Spokeswoman Grace Lessner says students have been preparing by researching candidates and learning about issues facing the state and nation.
New Hampshire Public Television's general mock election began in 1996, and the mock primary election was started in 2000.
Station officials will tally the votes throughout the day and post regular updates to the website until the final count is in. Final results are expected to be posted by 10 p.m. Wednesday.
"The New Hampshire Primary Mock Election is an opportunity for students to learn about the electoral process firsthand," notes Susan Adams, New Hampshire Public Television's manager of educational services. "In order to continue this tradition, our children need to understand the vital role New Hampshire plays every four years when it holds the First in the National presidential primary."
