Merrimack, NH Officials Apologize For Primary Traffic Issues
MERRIMACK (CBS) – Officials in a New Hampshire town are apologizing after a traffic backup caused delays at the polls on the night of the state's primary.
On Tuesday, election officials were prepared to potentially keep polls open late as dozens of cars were stuck in traffic waiting to get into the Merrimack High School parking lot.
Polls closed around 8 p.m. as scheduled, but on Wednesday Merrimack officials issued an apology to residents and vowed to fix the issue going forward.
"The Town Council would like to acknowledge the great difficulty with traffic during this Presidential Primary and that we will examine options and alternatives to prepare for the Presidential Election in November," the statement said. "We will be working with the Police Department and Election Officials to address these issues. We regret any inconvenience experienced by our citizens."
