NH Gov. Chris Sununu Tests Negative For COVID After Experiencing Similar Symptoms

CONCORD, N.H. (CBS) – New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu tested negative for COVID-19 after he woke up Wednesday with symptoms similar to the virus.

Sununu postponed his Executive Council meeting, though his office said it was out of an abundance of caution.

Earlier in the day, Sununu said he was isolating and awaiting test results. He released a statement later in the day saying he tested negative for COVID-19.

"I appreciate all the well wishes. I woke up with symptoms similar to COVID and out of an abundance of caution I took two rapid antigen tests, which came back negative, and then followed up with a PCR test, which confirmed the negative," Sununu said. "I am going to rest up, and look forward to getting back to the State House soon!"

The Republican governor is fully vaccinated.

Sununu traveled to Kentucky on Monday with a group of New Hampshire officials to meet with health care workers to learn about the state's impending hospital surge. During the trip, Sununu visited two hospitals and met with Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear.
