New Bill Would Allow Officers To Cross Town Lines For Arrests
BOSTON (CBS) --- More than 100 police chiefs from all over the state were at the Statehouse Wednesday to show their support for a bill that would allow them to cross city and town lines if they suspect illegal activity.
Right now, the law states that an officer has specific limits when it comes to pursuing a suspect over a city or state line.

Any evidence seized after the officer crosses the lines, would even be inadmissible in court.
That, says many members of the law enforcement community, is a big problem.
Now, a bill is being discussed on Beacon Hill to change that law.
The new bill would give departments the authority to stop a motorist for a violation they observed within their jurisdiction, even if the motorist crosses into an adjoining jurisdiction before the vehicle comes to a stop.
