New Bedford Man Arrested In Maine Shooting
PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Maine State Police say a man is in custody and facing charges after shooting two people outside a home in New Gloucester and leading troopers on a chase that ended about 50 miles away in Lyman.
Police say the two people shot Monday evening were seriously injured. Their names were not available.
Police say 29-year-old Joel Hayden, of New Bedford, Mass., was arrested at gunpoint around 9 p.m. after crashing his car near the intersection of routes 202 and 5.
State Police spokesman Steve McCausland says Hayden was not charged on Monday night because he was hospitalized, but he is the only suspect in the shooting of a man and a woman.
McCausland tells the Portland Press Herald officials don't know what provoked the shooting.
