Neely On Felger & Mazz: 'You Have To Eliminate Head Shots' From NHL
BOSTON (CBS) - Bruins forward Loui Eriksson has been diagnosed with a concussion and is out indefinitely following a dirty, blind-side hit by Buffalo's John Scott on Wednesday night.
Boston Bruins president Cam Neely joined 98.5 The Sports Hub's Felger & Massarotti on Thursday, and was obviously not too pleased with Scott's actions on Wednesday.
"I didn't like the hit. I didn't like it at all. I didn't think it was necessary," he said. "I'm sure the league will look nice and hard at it... There has to be a way to figure this out, because we're losing good players to concussions."
"I think the union and the league have to come together, and the only way to get this out is steeper and longer suspensions," Neely said. "You don't want to take contact out of the game, but you have to eliminate head shots. If you're a player and you think you have a guy in a vulnerable position, you have to pull up. The way to concern the players with that is by longer suspensions."
"I know it's a quick and fast game, but it's happened way too much in this early season," said Neely.

"Players themselves need to have these conversations. Not just team by team, but player by player," he said. "It's one thing to take someone out with a nice clean check, but when you talk about a hit to the head, that's the one area the league has done a good job trying to educate the players and hand down the kind of punishment you thought would deter from hits to the head."
