Needham Man Arrested After Allegedly Grabbing Tampa Bay Rays Mascot
BOSTON (CBS) – A Needham man was arrested at the Red Sox-Rays game in Tampa Tuesday night, after he allegedly grabbed the Rays mascot.
St. Petersburg Police told WBZ-TV Trevor James Martin, 27, was drinking beer during the game at Tropicana Field when he reached across a railing and grabbed "Raymond" by the neck twice.
Raymond pushed back and escaped.
According to police, Martin was staggering, slurring his words and smelled of alcohol.
The person in the mascot suit did not press charges.
Officers said Martin told them he drank two beers during the game.
He was charged with disorderly intoxication in a public place, which is a misdemeanor.
He was taken to the Pinellas County Jail, where he posted $100 bail and was released.
