Necropsy for young whale on Lighthouse Beach
A young humpback whale has washed up on a sandbar near Chatham.
Members of the International Fund for Animal Welfare helped move the dead mammal to shore at Lighthouse Beach. Experts conducted a 6-hour necropsy to determine the cause of death. Results are not conclusive at this time.
The whale was first seen floating near Eastham. It was believed to be a male, about 28 feet long and about 2 to 5 years old.
