National Weather Service Confirms Minor Tornado In Plymouth
BOSTON (CBS) - The National Weather Service in Taunton has confirmed that a tornado touched down in Plymouth last week.
It began as a series of water spouts near White Horse Beach late Tuesday afternoon, but one of them came ashore.
"We had three small water spouts form on the Manomet section of Plymouth by Whitehorse Beach. At least one of them came on the beach far enough to actually cause some minor damage. And once you have a water spout that comes on shore that causes any damage then you have to go ahead and classify it as a tornado," Alan Dunham, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, told WBZ NewsRadio 1030 Monday.
The tornado was minor, an EF 0 on the ranking scale, because its wind speeds never exceeded 65-miles per hour.
