National Perspective On Patriots Win

BOSTON (CBS) -- There were a lot of national media at the Monday night affair. The Pats took it to the Jets 45 to 3 and afterwards, this is what some columnists penned in their articles.

Dan Wetzel of Yahoo! Sports writes on the stunning performance in a piece with the headline "Reserved Belichick gets last grin, win." Writes Wetzel, "If Rex Ryan thought making this personal was a way to rattle King Belichick, he might want to consider Plan B."

William Rhoden of the New York Times pens a "Sports of the Times" piece on what unfolded. "The Patriots accomplished two other things: they planted seeds of doubt in the minds of a Jets team that many picked to win the division and proved that everything Ryan said about Belichick was true."

Mark Maske of the Washington Post quotes Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis on Tom Brady. "The guy is one of the best in the league. It's between him and Peyton [Manning]. We know what type of player he is. When you play against these caliber quarterbacks, you can't bring your C-plus game."

Mike Freeman of CBSSports.com focuses on how the Patriots rose up and the Jets fizzled. Writes Freeman, "Patriots 45, Jets 3. Doubts the Patriots are the best team in football: zero."

COACH ON McDANIELS FIRING

Josh McDaniels was the offensive coordinator for the Patriots before taking the head coaching job with the Denver Broncos. On Monday he was let go.

Josh was only in the second year of his deal but some of his moves left you scratching your head. He got rid of the franchise quarterback in Jay Cutler, the top wide receiver in Brandon Marshall and traded away running back Peyton Hillis.

Bill Belichick commented of his former coordinator's firing.

"Of course I was disappointed to see that for Josh," Belichick responded. "Unfortunately, I know what that feels like. I was disappointed for him and his family, but at the same time, that's the third one of those we've seen this year, so it's certainly not uncommon. It's kind of the way it is in the NFL these days. Things can turn around in a hurry. Minnesota, one year they're playing in the NFC Championship and halfway through the next year, they've got a new coach. You see a lot of that in the National Football League these days. I'm not sure that I fully support all that, but those aren't my decisions."
