National Cemetery In Bourne Lined With 56,000 Flags For Memorial Day Weekend
BOURNE (CBS) - The National Cemetery in Bourne was lined with 56,000 flags for Memorial Day Weekend.
The effort to have the flags placed by each grave site was led by Paul Monti of Raynham, whose son Jared was killed in Afghanistan six years ago.
Monti says that because of cemetery maintenance concerns, it took four years to get permission for this project.
"I had to go through channels all the way up - talking to veterans groups, senators, congressmen," he said.
More than 1000 volunteers helped placed the flags.
They will remain in place until June 3.
