Natick Police Searching For Man In Early Morning ATM Robbery
NATICK (CBS) – Natick police are searching for a man who allegedly robbed a woman at gunpoint at a Citizen's Bank ATM Tuesday. A woman told officers that she entered the vestibule to deposit checks into the ATM around 7:15 Tuesday morning and noticed a man waiting inside.
When she was finished at the ATM, the man allegedly confronted her with a gun, took her purse, and ran away.
The woman described the man as being black, tall with a thin build, wearing a dark-colored hoodie and a surgical mask covering his face. He never said a word.
People living in the area were shocked to learn of what happened in broad daylight. Kathy Spencer said she has banked at the location for years. "It's very scary, and I can't believe it happened right in downtown Natick," she said.
The man was last seen running across the pedestrian bridge of the downtown Natick Commuter Rail stop, which is just steps from the bank. Police K-9 units were brought in but were unable to find a scent.
Natick Police Lt. Cara Rossi said the victim "did the right thing" and did not put up a fight. "She gave up the money," Rossi said. "She's safe...no one got hurt."
Police said it could have been much more dangerous for the woman, especially because the man was armed.
Investigators will now look over surveillance footage from the area.
