Nate Solder's 'Heart Breaks' For Infant Son During Cancer Fight
BOSTON (CBS) - New England Patriots lineman Nate Solder says the lessons he's learning off the field have been the toughest of all. Last month he learned his 4 month old son Hudson has cancer.
"When you see a young child going through something like this it's so tough and your heart breaks," Solder told WBZ-TV's Paul Burton.
Solder spends his career protecting Tom Brady on the field, but his season ended early this year with a torn bicep.
In April, after the Super Bowl win, he revealed he was treated for testicular cancer. Now Solder faces his toughest battle as his precious son Hudson battles kidney cancer.
"My thought was that this poor innocent child has to go through this. I feel like I did something wrong and I wasn't able to protect him," Solder said.
Solder, who has deep faith in God, says there is a reason for this heavy burden.
"He's leading me through and carrying me through this whole process and I know there is reason for it," Solder said.
Solder's wife Lexi encouraged him to make the announcement about their son's cancer at the Joe Andruzzi Foundation event.
Hudson has already had four rounds of chemotherapy at Boston Children's Hospital.
He still has another 15 treatments left to go.
"Right now my primary focus is getting Hudson healthy," Solder said.
