Murray Details Local Aid Money In 2012 Mass. Budget
BOSTON (AP) — Gov. Deval Patrick's administration says it hopes to provide the same amount of unrestricted local aid to cities and towns in next year's state budget as in the current fiscal year.
Lt. Gov. Timothy Murray also told a conference of municipal officials Friday they can expect a $145 million increase in state education funding.

Murray said unrestricted local aid — state money that can be used for general purposes — would be budgeted at $834 million in the fiscal year starting July 1, the same as was budgeted this year. But he said an additional $65 million would once again be returned to municipalities if the state ends the current year with a surplus, as it did last year.
Patrick is scheduled to unveil his state spending plan on Wednesday.
