Friends and teammates packed the school gymnasium, gathering to pay tribute to Todd Walker.
In the early morning hours after a St. Patrick's Day party, in Walker's home state of Colorado, he was walking a female friend home, when a man tried to rob them.
That suspect pulled out a gun, and Walker stepped in front of the woman to protect her, only to be shot to death.
Several students say Walker died a hero.
Teammate Kevin Decker was honest about his feelings. "Sometimes a little bit I wish he didn't do it," Decker said.
Thanks to a tip, Police were able to make an arrest in the case. The man charged with the murder has pleaded not guilty.
