Mother's Day Weekend Could Bring Worst Traffic Of Year
BOSTON (CBS) – Did you know Friday could be the worst traffic day of the year?
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation said the Friday before Mother's Day was the worst traffic day of 2012.

So you've been warned – especially if you're driving on the Mass Pike or heading to the Cape.

"Turnpike toll transactions statistics from 2012 ranked the Friday before Mother's Day as the heaviest traffic day on the Turnpike with more than 363,000 transactions logged between Interstate 95/Route 128 and the New York border. Friday nights in the warm weather months accounted for the top 20 heaviest travel days on the Turnpike last year," the DOT stated on its blog.
"The heaviest traffic is expected Friday and Sunday afternoons and early evenings. Drivers are encouraged to make travel plans accordingly and if possible avoid peak traffic volumes between 1pm and 7pm on those days."
The worst spots, according to MassDOT are:
The Pike:
Exit 9 (I-84 interchange) in Sturbridge.
Exit 11A (I-495 interchange) in Hopkinton
The Cape:
Bourne Bridge
Sagamore Bridge
Also:
I-95 and I-495 Interchanges
I-495 and I-93 north into New Hampshire.
