Mother Charged With Attempted Murder Of Daughter In Brighton Fire
BOSTON (CBS) - A Brighton mother is facing attempted murder and arson charges for allegedly trying to kill her daughter and her daughter's boyfriend in her Brighton apartment early Sunday morning, officials said.
The incident happened in the Fidelis Way housing complex on Jette Court at about 4:20 a.m.
Investigators said Lisa Brown, 49, of Brighton, set the fire in a third floor hallway outside her own apartment then took off.
Her 21-year-old daughter and her daughter's 21-year-old boyfriend were trapped inside the unit, but firefighters rescued them with a ladder extended to the third floor window.
Both were taken to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
"The investigators went to the hospital to interview the two people that were taken out over the ladder and based on those interviews, the physical evidence and all, they had a pretty good idea of what had happened," Boston Fire Department spokesman Steve MacDonald told WBZ NewsRadio 1030.
When investigators returned to the scene, MacDonald said Brown had returned as well. She was arrested.
Damage is estimated at $25,000.
More details in the case are expected Monday, when Brown will be arraigned in Brighton District Court.
