Mookie Betts Out Of Lineup Day After Crashing Into Wall
BOSTON (CBS) – Red Sox outfielder Mookie Betts is out of Saturday's lineup a day after crashing into the center field wall while trying to track down a fly ball.
Betts was injured in the top of the second inning of Friday night's 13-10 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays.
Toronto's Justin Smoak hit a ball into the triangle at Fenway Park, and Betts chased after it, reaching up, missing the ball and running face first into the fence.
Smoak ended up with a triple, and though Betts finished the inning he came out in the bottom half of the frame.
Manager John Farrell told reporters that Betts was suffering from a lower back sprain, though he did not have any symptoms of a concussion and a DL stint is unlikely.
When the Red Sox take on the Blue Jays at 1:35 p.m. on Saturday, Rusney Castillo will play centerfield in Betts' absence.
"He's sore today and will probably need a couple of days to get over the impact," Farrell said.
