Mom Of Missing Nantucket Woman Says Police Are Close To Solving Case
BOURNE (CBS) - The mother of a missing Nantucket woman says police are close to solving the mystery of her daughter's disappearance.
"How can somebody just disappear just like that? It's almost a year and nothing," says Vivienne Walker.
Her daughter, 23-year-old Trudie Hall, was 4 months pregnant when she left the island July 27th, 2010 for a visit to Hyannis. Detectives later found her rental car with blood in it at Routes 6 and 132.
Her mother is now pushing for answers. She has hired two private investigators, who have found information about Hall's behavior that Walker finds hard to accept.
WBZ-TV's Christina Hager reports.
"She started getting rebellious. My husband said, 'You have to let go of your kids.' This is the result of letting go of your kids," said Walker.
She says investigators have gotten clues from activity on Hall's Facebook page, which her mother left open, as well as her phone line. "People still call the number, but it goes to voice mail," says Walker. She is offering a $15,000 reward for information.
The attorney representing the father of Hall's unborn child tells WBZ-TV that police questioned the Centerville man for hours, but let him walk free without ever naming him a suspect.
Hall's mother says she knows in her heart someone killed Hall.
"It's all about the baby," she says.
She says there are people on Nantucket who know what happened, but are afraid to speak up.
"The saddest thing is they are walking among us and we don't even know. That's the sad part, so how can we protect our children?" said Walker.
Cape and Islands District Attorney Michael Keating tells WBZ-TV his investigation is still active, but says he does not comment on open cases.
