Mohegan Sun Seeks End To Palmer Casino Agreement
PALMER (AP) — A real estate firm says Mohegan Sun is trying to end an exclusive casino agreement in Palmer while continuing to lease a 152-acre site in the town.
Northeast Realty, which owns the site, said such a move would leave the property unavailable to any future casino hopefuls.
Palmer residents narrowly voted down Mohegan Sun's proposed casino earlier this month.
Northeast Realty said Mohegan Sun was "abandoning" Palmer before a scheduled recount next week so it could pursue other casino opportunities in Massachusetts.
Chip Tuttle, chief operating officer of Suffolk Downs, confirmed on Thursday that Mohegan Sun is among several companies that have discussed partnering with Suffolk Downs on a revised casino proposal in Revere.
In an earlier statement, Mohegan Sun refuted suggestions by Palmer casino supporters that it had negotiated with Suffolk Down prior to the Nov. 5 referendum.
