MLB Trade Deadline Live Blog: Orioles Acquire Bud Norris
4:21 p.m.: So much for that! A nearly silent deadline day hasn't produced anything in the post-4 p.m. window, and we might be done here.
The Dodgers did acquire catcher Drew Butera, according to Tim Brown, but that's hardly a headline-grabber.
4:02 p.m.: The official deadline has passed, but in the next 30-minute window, we usually see some deals trickle in. The Manny Ramirez trade in '08 wasn't known until around 4:15 p.m. or so that year, so we're not done yet.
3:36 p.m.: That didn't take long.
Rosenthal now reports that Norris is heading to Baltimore for outfield prospect L.J. Hoes and another piece. The deal is currently being finalized.
3:30 p.m.: The Orioles are eager to bulk up the roster for the playoff run, and they're "making progress" on acquiring starting pitcher Bud Norris, according to Ken Rosenthal. That clock is a-ticking.
3:13 p.m.: Peter Gammons said on MLB Network that Padres reliever Luke Gregerson will NOT be traded today, so take that name off the list of potential Red Sox pickups.
3:06 p.m.: We're in the final hour now, so expect the trades to begin. One has, with Justin Maxwell getting traded from the Astros to the Royals, according to Ken Rosenthal. It's interesting to see the Royals, just five games out of a wild card spot, making an addition at the deadline.
2:42 p.m.: The Yankees are listening to offers for Phil Hughes, according to Bob Nightengale. He was once thought to be a major part of the Yankees' rotation, but that plan has been altered in recent years with Hughes' struggles.
2:13 p.m.: Ian Kennedy has been traded to the Padres.
Jeff Passan reports that Joe Thatcher, prospect Matt Stites and a draft pick will go to Arizona in the deal.
2:10 p.m.: Michael Young, who seems to be the only name we keep hearing about, will now accept a trade to the Yankees, if one comes up for Philly. Mark Feinsand and Ken Rosenthal reported that news.
1:50 p.m.: It is indeed a quiet, quiet deadline day, with the only reports being ones saying deals are unlikely to happen. That's no fun.
One deal that does seem to be progressing is Ian Kennedy to the Padres. Why the Padres, 8 1/2 games out in the NL West and nine games out of a wild-card spot, feel the need to acquire a pitcher with a 3-8 record and 5.23 ERA is unknown, but reports are a-swirling.
12:43 p.m.: The biggest name we'll likely see bandied about today is Justin Morneau. Jon Heyman just reported that the Orioles, Pirates and "two mystery teams" are in pursuit of Morneau, with Minnesota fielding offers for the longtime Twin.
Sources being what they are, Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun reported a source informed him that the Orioles are not pursuing Morneau.
12:37 p.m.: ESPN's Gordon Edes reports that he was told that it's "doubtful" that the Red Sox acquire Michael Young. It's deadline day, of course, so things change, but that's the word right now.
11:55 a.m.: As we hit Wednesday afternoon, the rumors and rumblings are getting louder around baseball.
The Baltimore Orioles are reportedly in the market for another starting pitcher and bat for their lineup, and have their sights set on Houston righty Bud Norris and Twins DH Justin Morneau.
The Orioles have been in on the Norris talks for awhile, but the NY Post's Joel Sherman Tweeted that the Orioles feel the asking price is too high for upgrades. That could very well change as 4 p.m. gets closer.
The Pirates and Diamondbacks have also shown interest in Norris.
11:28 a.m.: According to Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal, Michael Young would waive his no-trade clause to join the Red Sox.
ESPN's Jayson Stark reported the same thing yesterday, though many still felt that Young would only waive his no-trade for a return to Texas.
The Sox could use Young now that they no longer have Jose Iglesias, and Brock Holt/Brandon Snyder are their current options at third. In 99 games with the Phillies this season, Young is hitting .279 with eight home runs and 34 RBIs.
Young is a career .300 hitter, but has hit just .248 in 34 career playoff games.
11:00 a.m.: The hot rumor on Tuesday morning was the Red Sox and Phillies were talking about a Cliff Lee swap.
Now that the Sox have Jake Peavy, and given the Phillies want a king's ransom in return for the lefty starter, Lee is reportedly not going anywhere today -- according to ESPN's Jim Bowden.
Jon Heyman adds this morning "the Red Sox are said now to have in reality been a 'non factor' for Cliff Lee before they landed Jake Peavy." Boston no interest in surrendering Xander Bogaerts for Lee, especially if it meant picking up the full $70 million he is owed over the next three seasons.
10:35 a.m.: Both Will Middlebrooks and Xander Bogaerts are in the lineup for the Pawtucket Red Sox this afternoon, so it will be Brock Holt taking Jose Iglesias' roster spot in Boston -- for now.
10:15 a.m.: It's been a quiet start to deadline day so far, with just a few rumors making their rounds, but things can pick up quickly ahead of the 4 p.m. deadline.
While the acquisition of Jake Peavy helps both the Red Sox rotation and bullpen (with Brandon Workman finding his way to the pen after last night's stellar start), Boston could still look to add a reliever. One name that has been mentioned is San Diego's Luke Gregerson, but ESPN's Jayson Stark Tweeted that the Padres are more likely to move lefty reliever Joe Thatcher.
The name Michael Young is still showing up in rumors and Tweets, so he remains an option for Boston as well. But Peter Gammons told 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich he doesn't think the team will -- or should -- give up any more prospects for a 36-year-old rental.

Keep it here throughout the afternoon and up to the deadline for the latest rumors and deals.
8 a.m.: It's that time of year again, the time when Major League Baseball teams go bananas in the hours leading up to the trade deadline. And this will be the one-stop shop for all the day's action.
It should be a pretty busy day for several reasons. First and foremost, it's almost always a busy day, and with a good number of teams already out of playoff contention, there is good reason to believe there is a strong flurry of activity today.
Adding to that belief is the Biogenesis investigation. Any teams currently employing a player who may be facing a long suspension are going to need to make an addition to fill the hole in the roster, so there might be even more activity than usual.
The Red Sox kicked things off in a big way last night, agreeing to a three-team deal with the White Sox and Tigers to acquire Jake Peavy, with Jose Iglesias going to Detroit and three prospects going to Chicago.
That leaves a hole in the infield for the Sox, but GM Ben Cherington said on a conference call early Wednesday morning the team will likely look for in-house for help.
"We really feel like there are enough infielders here in the organization between Boston and Pawtucket that we can get good production from the left side of our infield," said Cherington.
With that, the GM said things will likely be quiet for the Red Sox on deadline day.
"We'll never rule anything out, but there's certainly nothing imminent and I wouldn't expect anything to happen by [Wednesday]," he said.
Whatever happens today, whether it be a rumor, a breakdown or a done deal, it will be here in the live blog. So check back throughout the day leading up the 4 p.m. ET deadline.
