Missing Martin Richard 'Peace' Banner Mystery Solved
BOSTON (CBS) - A peace banner dedicated to Martin Richard that vanished from the bridge over Interstate 93 in Dorchester has been located.
The banner, which quoted a well-known photo of Martin with the phrase 'No more hurting people… peace' was hung on the Savin Hill Bridge and gained attention during the first anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombings on April 15.
But high winds tore apart the banner a short time later and it was replaced with a stronger version.
That version went missing sometime Wednesday. Some feared it was stolen.
But WBZ-TV found out Thursday that the Department of Transportation removed it for safety reasons.
"Our maintenance staff assigned to that area proactively took the banner down as the winds kicked up. We have the banner safely stored at one of our depots," MassDOT spokeswoman Sara Lavoie said.
MassDOT later found the woman who helped create the banner and returned it to her Thursday afternoon.
