Milford To Vote On Foxwoods' Casino Proposal
Town officials are predicting a large turnout for Tuesday's vote on the plan offered by Crossroads Massachusetts, a group led by Connecticut casino operator Foxwoods.
Opponents say the casino would reduce property values, snarl traffic and strain water supplies.
But backers point to a host community agreement that calls for Foxwoods to make $31 million in annual payments to the town if the casino is built.
The company, which hopes to compete for the sole eastern Massachusetts resort casino license, announced a deal last week for additional financing, a requirement that had been set by the state's gambling commission as part of a conditional suitability finding.
