Milan Lucic Affirms Pride In Hometown Of Vancouver
BOSTON (CBS) -- When an emotional Milan Lucic spoke to reporters on Monday, he swore off his hometown of Vancouver after what he called an "unprovoked attack" that happened there over the weekend.
But with some time to cool down, the Bruins left winger said that upon further reflection, he still has love for the city of Vancouver.
"This has been a very difficult week for me given the recent events that took place in my hometown of Vancouver," Lucic said in a prepared statement. "As I have had more time to think, I want to make it clear that regardless of what has happened, I am still - and always will be - proud to be from there. It is home.
The attack took place in the early morning hours on Sunday, shortly after the Bruins lost to the Canucks. A video of Lucic outside in the city showed him claiming to have been punched multiple times by a stranger, a claim he reiterated on Monday.
"While the actions of a few individuals have deeply upset me and will impact the time I spend downtown going forward, I will not let those incidents diminish the love and pride I have for the city as a whole," Lucic said in the statement. "This will be my final comment on this subject."
