Mike Giardi On The Adam Jones Show: Ed Reed Can't Run Anymore
BOSTON (CBS) - Patriots insider Mike Giardi of Comcast SportsNet New England joined The Adam Jones Show Tuesday night to talk all things Patriots, including a Monday Night Football analysis of their matchup against the Carolina Panthers and whether or not they have any interest in safety Ed Reed following his release by the Houston Texans.
But first, let's start with Reed.
Sidelined by a hip injury to start the season, the future Hall of Famer has played in just seven games in 2013, starting five of them. And with injured Patriots safety Steve Gregory slated to miss a few weeks with a broken thumb, will Belichick take a look at Reed?

He would have to clear waivers first.
All 31 teams have a chance to claim him off waivers in the 24 hours following his release. If multiple teams place a waiver claim on Reed, the player is awarded to the team with the worst record. If Reed goes unclaimed, he clears waivers and is a free agent.
"If he [Reed] clears waivers I'm sure there will be a phone call," said Giardi. "But he plays the same position as Devin McCourty. You can never have enough bodies in the secondary, enough talented bodies in the secondary, but what are you going to do with Devin McCourty?"
"With all due respect to Ed Reed, he's got a Hall of Fame career and has done some wonderful things, but he can't run anymore. He couldn't run well last year and obviously couldn't run well this year. He's not the same player."
Given his decline in play, hip injury and mouthiness in Houston, Giardi doesn't feel like Ed Reed would be a good fit here in New England.
In looking at Carolina, for the Patriots to come away with a win on Monday Night Football they're going to have to win the line of scrimmage.
"This game is going to be on the Patriots offensive line. Carolina is like Cincinnati and they're like the Jets. They can get after it with just four guys [on the defensive line]. The Patriots have had problems with that and when [Tom] Brady gets smacked early in games we've seen the effect that it has on him, the passing game and his confidence."
