Mike Carp Activated To Red Sox' Roster; Jonathan Herrera Sent To Triple-A
BOSTON (CBS) -- The Red Sox find themselves in last place in the AL East for the first time in a long while, and they're going to look a little different when they take the field on Monday night.
Mike Carp, out since the beginning of June with a broken foot, was activated to the roster on Monday. To make room, the Sox sent Jonathan Herrera to Triple-A Pawtucket.
Carp was hitting just .214 with zero home runs and a .603 OPS before going on the DL. Last season, his first with the Red Sox, he batted .296 with an .885 OPS in 86 regular-season games.
Herrera, 29, is hitting .233 in 42 games played for the Red Sox this year. He delivered a walk-off single on Saturday afternoon to give the Red Sox a 4-3 win over the Orioles.
