Middlesex County Weekend Jail Sentences Raising Eyebrows
RAYNHAM (CBS) - A man who recently failed to show up for his weekend jail stay has opened some eyes about the terms of his sentence.
Middlesex County Sheriff Peter Koutoujian is praising corrections officers who worked through the weekend to carefully locate and apprehend Charles Jones, who didn't show up for his court-ordered weekend sentence.
Jones, who was convicted of driving with a suspended license, had been ordered to 60 weekends in jail. Yes, just the weekends.

Koutoujian said he sees the weekend sentences are a safety issue for his men.
"This is always a security risk because this person is coming in and out of our facility," said Koutoujian.
He said he'd like the courts to be more careful in handing weekend sentences out.
"I think we're one of the only counties that still has a couple of courts that do this. I just checked with sheriffs across the state, and the sheriffs with whom I spoke didn't have any weekenders in their facilities," said Koutoujian.
