BOSTON (CBS) - Red Sox third baseman Will Middlebrooks will get Wednesday night off after a collision with teammate David Ross on Tuesday night left his with sore ribs.

Pedro Ciriaco, who took Middlebrooks' place at third on Tuesday night, will get the start at third and bad ninth on Wednesday night as Boston continues their four-game set against the Minnesota Twins.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia will start behind the plate, batting seventh.

Middlebrooks underwent an X-Ray and CT scan on Tuesday night shortly after he collided with Ross while catching a foul ball. The third baseman's right side slammed into lower wall on the stands, but manager John Farrell echoed on Wednesday that Middlebrooks and Ross remain "day-to-day."
