Middleboro Woman Held On $100K Bail In Crash That Killed Teen
LAKEVILLE, Mass. (AP) —Police say a Middleborough woman was drunk and on heroin when her pickup truck struck another vehicle over the weekend, killing the 18-year-old college freshman driving.
Kathleen Allen was held on $100,000 bail after pleading not guilty Monday in Wareham District Court to charges including drunken driving and motor vehicle homicide.
Police say the 23-year-old Allen struck another vehicle head-on Route 44 in Lakeville just after 2 a.m. Saturday.
The driver of that other vehicle, 18-year-old Monica Demello of Middleborough, was pronounced dead at the scene. Allen's passenger was injured and flown to a Boston hospital.
Demello was a freshman at Gordon College in Wenham visiting her family for Easter.
Gordon College President D. Michael Lindsay called Demello's death "a tragedy and a shock" to the entire community.
