Mickey Ward To Drop Puck At Bruins Game
BOSTON (CBS) - "Irish" Mickey Ward will drop the ceremonial first puck Friday night when the Bruins take on the Detroit Red Wings, the team announced Thursday.
Ward, a Lowell native, won three New England Golden Glove titles as an amateur before turning pro in 1985. He retired with a 38-13 pro record, having captured both the WBU Intercontinental Light Welterweight title and the WBU Light Welterweight title.
"The Fighter," a movie based on Ward's life starring Mark Wahlberg, was released last year to rave reviews. It was nominated for seven Academy Awards, including "Best Picture."
