Mets Sign Tim Tebow To Minor League Contract
BOSTON (CBS) -- Tebow Mania is heading back to New York.
The New York Mets have signed Tim Tebow to a minor league contract and will now send him to the Instructional League, the team announced on Thursday.
The former NFL quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner held a workout for Major League teams last month, and his performance was met with mixed reviews. Tebow hasn't played competitive baseball since high school, but will now try to find his way in the Mets organization.
Tebow, who won National Championships at Florida in 2006 and 2008, played three NFL seasons after being drafted by the Denver Broncos 25th overall in 2010. He led the Broncos to the playoffs in 2011, but was traded to the New York Jets in 2012. After not seeing the field as a quarterback with New York, he spent training camps with the New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles, but was cut before the season by both franchises.
The Boston Red Sox were among the teams to attend Tebow's workout last month, but had no desire to add him to their system.
