Methuen Soldier Asks Hope Solo Out On YouTube
METHUEN (CBS) - A Methuen native serving in Afghanistan has a request for soccer star Hope Solo.
Capt. Nassar Jabour posted a You Tube video asking Solo to attend the Austrian Officer's Ball with him this January. In the video Jabour says he "doesn't want to marry" Hope, he just wants to take her to the dance. And in the meantime, if she'd like to get to know him better, he'd "love a pen pal."
WBZ-TV's New Hampshire Bureau Chief Lauren Leamanczyk reached Jabour by phone Friday. He said watching the U.S. Women's Soccer team in the World Cup gave him and his friends in Afghanistan something to cheer for. He said he hadn't been a huge soccer fan, but watching the U.S. women was exciting and Hope quickly became his favorite player.
Jabour was inspired to ask her out via YouTube by another military man. Recently, a U.S. Marine convinced actress Mila Kunis to attend the Marine Ball with him using the same methods.
Jabour admits he copied the idea. "Can you blame me?," he said.
The ball is in Austria in January and Jabour says it is very fun and quite glamorous. Should Hope Solo decide to attend, she won't have to go alone. Jabour's fellow soldiers want her to bring her teammates.
WBZ-TV tried to reach Hope through Twitter and U.S. Soccer. So far there has been no answer.
