Armed Robbery Suspect Shot By Police In Methuen

METHUEN (CBS) – A man wanted for an armed robbery in Methuen was shot and wounded by police officers Thursday night.

Police say the 36-year-old man was shot "multiple times" after he allegedly pulled a gun on four detectives at the Summit Place apartments on Pleasant Valley Street at about 9:00 p.m.

Police say the suspect was wanted for an armed robbery that occurred at the Pleasant Valley Superette earlier in the day. When he saw his picture on the Methuen Police Department's Facebook page, he called officers who agreed to meet him at the apartment complex.

"They were met by the suspect who suddenly and without warning drew a black firearm, pointed it at the officers and began to move at them rapidly," Methuen Police Capt. Randy Haggar said.

"Fearing for their lives and the lives of the many civilians living at the complex, detectives drew their firearms and fired at the suspect as he advanced towards them."

The detectives disarmed the suspect and began first aid. He was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. His identity has not been released.

No officers were injured during the incident.
