Metal Sign Impales Car Windshield In Braintree, Narrowly Misses Driver

BRAINTREE (CBS) – A driver narrowly escaped injury over the weekend after a metal sign post speared through the front windshield of her car.

According to Braintree Police, an 82-year old Holbrook woman was driving on Washington Street near the Holbrook line Saturday afternoon when her car swerved off the the road, knocked down two signs -- including a Braintree town sign -- and smashed into a gas pump at the Super Petroleum station.

"The street sign crashed through the windshield  of the vehicle about a  foot from where the operator was sitting and the other sign pushed up against the gas pump," Braintree Police Chief Russell Jenkins said.

One of the signs impaled the front windshield just to the right of the driver's side.

"When I walked outside and saw it, it was crazy how close it was to her face," witness Kiley Keller told WBZ-TV's Paul Burton.

No one was seriously injured in the crash.

The woman, whose name will not be released, has not been charged with a crime.

WBZ-TV's Paul Burton contributed to this report.
