Menino Trashes Arbitrator, Urges City Council To Reject Boston Police Contract
BOSTON (CBS) - Mayor Menino is urging Boston's City Council to veto an arbitrator's award that would give Boston police officers a 25.4 percent pay increase over the next six years.
At an event in Allston on Saturday, Menino railed against the ruling, claiming the city acted in good faith during contract negotiations, and that the patrolman's union wouldn't budge.

Menino Trashes Arbitrator, Urges City Council To Reject Police Contract
"This is a ploy that the public safety unions use all the time because the arbitrator always gives more," Menino said. "I want to know how the arbitrator expects us to pick up this cost. "
The mayor said the increase is more than double what other city unions are receiving and that it sets an unsustainable precedent.
"I'm not going to mortgage the city's future. I know I'm leaving office in 100 days, but I want the next mayor to have a budget that works," the mayor said.
The Boston Police Patrolmen's Association has not yet issued any comments on the ruling.
